BSc in Financial Engineering

Program Overview

The BSc in Financial Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is an English-taught undergraduate program jointly offered by the School of Management and Economics, the School of Science and Engineering and the School of Data Science. Students choose between two streams — Quantitative Finance, focusing on financial theory, derivative instruments and pricing, and FinTech, applying data science methods to the financial industry. The program features strong mathematics requirements and an interview for qualified applicants.

Curriculum

The program includes School Package Courses (Financial Management, Basic Microeconomics, Foundation of Finance), Major Required Courses (Data Structures, Fintech Theory and Practice, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management) and Elective Courses (Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Machine Learning, Financial Data Analysis, Internship). Students choose a stream and follow the recommended course pattern for their study scheme.

Admission Requirements

Academic

International qualifications such as IBDP (30/45), GCE A-Level (3 AL passes), SAT (1190/1600), ACT (24) or AP (grade 3 in two tests), or an equivalent recognised qualification. Strong mathematics background required.

Prerequisites

Business-related programs accept both science and social/business track backgrounds; applicants need a relatively strong mathematics background, especially for finance and economics.

Interview

All qualified applicants to the Financial Engineering program are expected to be interviewed.

Language Requirements

English is the primary medium of instruction. Minimum standards include IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80/120, ACT ELA 23, SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 590, or equivalent.
